For me, one of the best parts of being an artist (

For me, one of the best parts of being an artist (and also one of the most deliciously difficult at times) is exploring my way through where to go next… I’m inspired by so many things, including the wilderness on whose border I live, a color, a sound, a song or poem… and then a landslide of new (in this case literal) material comes my way and I can feel the edges of my consciousness prickling with how it all connects, but it doesn’t yet. It’s the knowing that it will, somehow, that is that electric edge of the creative process. Knowing I can trust it and follow it, and bring it into form. My educational background covers many different disciplines, but I spent quite a bit of time playing with fiber. I also started shopping at thrift stores when I was a teenager and before it was cool to do so… but loved the history of the objects and items I found… in this case I now have stacks of incredible upholstery samples which may have been otherwise headed to the landfill, but neither the designer who gifted them nor myself could stomach that… so let’s see what they become instead. A patchwork substrate for a painting? A sculpture? I have ideas… #creativeprocess #contemporarypainting #reclaimed #interiordesign #treasurenottrash
