About This Project

Wilding – Viribus  30″h x 37″w  acrylic and 24k gold leaf on stretched canvas upholstery fabric over cradled wooden panel.

Viribus is Latin for “strength” and this large, beautiful animal is embedded within a field of classic, delicate nosegay floral bunches… referencing themes of the natural world, of balance, perception, and decorative treatments… how do we walk through this world that we love? What is valuable to us and how do we express that? As usual, he was created using layers, and there is both density and transparency in the figure. It is simultaneously a substantial and delicate image… the panel itself has physical heft, yet the image of this impressive beast contains areas where the viewer can see through to the background, which itself contains references to human and specifically feminine hands.
